The WYPO

Founded in 1997, WYPO is an NGO based in Geneva, Switzerland. It received public utility recognition in 2007.

The cleanliness of a harbour, yacht-club or marina represents a social and economical asset. Foreseeing the long-term management of such areas represent a capital gain for any country or region.

Ports and marinas have contributed to the wealth and history of many towns and indeed entire regions where they have given birth to maritime and lakeside traditions. Today, pollution is growing continually and, depending on the type and intensity of lakeside and maritime activities, the impact on the natural environment can be devastating. Waste management must be effective and suitable measures must be taken to keep users informed and to gain their collaboration. In addition, the economic, touristic and environmental challenges must be considered if this situation is to be fully addressed. If we don't do this, we shall not safeguard the most precious asset of all – WATER.
