Marina environmental management programme

GreenpilotA marina is an interface between the natural and urban environments, where a variety of activities converge. On Lake Geneva, it is a favoured place for people to access the lake. Most marinas plan to develop their infrastructure within the coming decade. The impact of constructing, maintaining and using the marina ⇒ requirement for good management. Greenpilot is a marina environmental management programme whose aim is: - To conduct an environmental evaluation of the marina and make the marina and management authorities aware of a marina’s potential impact.
- To assist in decision making so that the most relevant and profitable actions are chosen with a view to environmental improvement while also taking account of the marina’s socioeconomic context.
- To determine the areas/activities that have the greatest impact so that appropriate and targeted measures can be taken.
- To help raise the awareness of users (sailors, walkers, organisers of regattas) of the environmental challenges associated with water sports.
- To facilitate communication between marina authorities and boat owners.
- To promote the development of a community of eco-sailors committed to informing marina users and boat owners of the importance of preserving the aquatic ecosystem.
