Diagnostics and solutions
The WYPO’s second main area consists in developing know-how and technical expertise in questions concerning the preservation of the environment in marinas while at the same time taking account of each site’s socioeconomic aspects. Our society is ever more partial to leisure, and water sports in particular have expanded over the past few decades. Ever more marinas are being developed, and they have become an inescapable part of our landscape. But marina zones and their related activities affect the environment, be it natural (water pollution, disruption of biotopes, modification of currents, etc.), social (marinas can constitute meeting or exclusion zones, be used to organise events or raise awareness of the lakeside environment) or economic (creation of shops, development of the water sports industry, tourist attraction, etc.). It therefore makes sense to enquire as to the sustainability of marinas and ports. What is a sustainble port ?A sustainable port is a port who take care of: - Environmental aspects related to port infrastructure: water, waste, construction, energy and environmental aspects related to the practice of water sports (including construction of the boat): mobility, energy, water, waste, maintenance, etc..
- Economic aspects related to the management of port activities and dependent peripheral port: restaurants, tourism, recreation, etc. shipyard.
- Social aspects related to the infrastructure itself and induced effects: governance, openness to more infrastructure and practice of sailing, social diversity, security, problem tickets, etc..
